Passing of SIM Member Kathleen Hanna
Note from SIM member Leonia Sagasta
July 31, 2017
"Last week attended sadly Farewell Wake of our beloved Kathleen Hanna. Eileen Kane from S.I.N.Y. started the program with her story telling of 40 years of friendship with K. The latter was also godmother to her son Asa. 6 of us showed up. Eileen cracked the ice and storytelling went all around the room.
I learned so much about K personal life. She had so many friends who adored her. She was always with open arms and a smile, no matter how she felt."
Leonia
R.I.P. querida Kathleen.

CONGRATULATIONS Toni!
This year's theme was The Great Gatsby, based on the era when women
were becoming a voice to be reckoned with, strong yet sassy! A perfect match for today’s Soroptimist
Women.
The 2017 Unsung Hero was announced by GE
Peggy Van Meter during the Formal Night Dinner on Saturday, April 29th. To our delight, it was none other than SIM's Toni Aiello.

"It is with a heavy
heart that I write to you today. Our beloved Bobbi Wailes passed away on
Sunday, March 5, 2017. As many of you know, she was our club founding
president. I have included her obituary below.
I know she will always hold a very special place in my heart
and I’m sure all of yours.
ROBERTA KALIKOW-WAILES
Roberta "Bobbi" of Fort Lee, New Jersey.
Passed away on March 5, 2017 peacefully after a long illness.
A victim of the
Polio epidemic of the late 1940's, Bobby worked tirelessly as an advocate for
people with disabilities. She was a gifted archer and holds a gold medal from
the Special Olympics. As director of the Department of Programs and Services
for people with disabilities at Lincoln
Center, she helped to
make the arts available to all.
Bobby was also very proud to be a three time
President of the Soroptimist International of Manhattan. For anyone who knew
her, they understood her love and devotion to animals particularly Katie and
Kasper, her "kids." Her list of accomplishments is too long to print.
Her family and friends were everything to her. She is survived by her cousins,
Edward and Gwen, Peter and Mary and N. Richard and Carol as well as their
children, Max, Jonathan, Amy, Jill, Nicholas, Kathryn, Gregory, Alison, Alexis,
Stephanie and Kevin. Funeral service Wednesday 11:30 am at Frank E Campbell
"The Funeral Chapel" 81st Street and Madison Ave. In lieu of flowers, please
send donations in the name of Bobby Wailes to the ASPCA 424 East 92nd Street NYC,
NY.
